andy robbins
( as told in the third person )
born and raised in Brooklyn, NYC (when it wasn't cool), andy showed early signs of what was to come. in the 5th grade he successfully lobbied to write, direct, and act in a staged adaptation of "m*a*s*h*". While the show never came to pass, he managed to miss two months of elective studies... a minor triumph.
after singlehandedly stealing the high school production of "you can't take it with you", he knew his calling. while attending suny binghamton he double majored in psychology and theater. during senior year he was one of two underclassmen invited to take classes in the university mfa program. in fact, after performing a scene as richard iii in class, he was offered a full production if he stayed an extra year.
pretty damn cool, sure, but he went on to graduate with a ba in psychology that year. (at the time he was short credits in theater shop/tech and said "meh", though in hindsight it was somewhat regrettable. not for the degree so much, but because now he really wants to know how to build stuff. ah well.)
andy returned to manhattan (brooklyn is now cool of course) and while studying with larry singer at the michael howard studios, became one of the founding members of the mefisto theatre company.
as an actor and co-artistic director, andy and mefisto produced multiple well reviewed original and little known plays culminating in their off broadway run of "eat the runt", which was named one of ny daily news' ten best plays of the year.
andy has directed theater in nyc and chicago and made his directorial film debut with "ball two" a short film he also wrote and stars in with bobby cannavale (vinyl, boardwalk empire) and dylan baker (happiness, the good wife). ball two is currently in post-production.
authored screenplays include "the B plan" (co-written with lisa walter) and "The moustache rides again." projects in development include the screenplay "The farm" and an original web series, "house of cats."
